Dax, cultural town

Whether it be Art Deco or Gallo-Roman, you’ll see Dax’s heritage at every bend in the road.
Historical relics in the great outdoors that ensure the Gascony roots will never be forgotten.

Dax is a cultural town with a wealth of heritage. Its Gallo Roman past comes into its own on the period ramparts and the archaeological crypt in the town centre.

The central Notre-Dame Cathedral and its square highlight the town’s rich religious heritage alongside Saint-Vincent-de-Xaintes Church.

The nearby Splendid Hôtel and Atrium hark back to Dax’s glamorous art deco. Jean Nouvel’s thermal spas add the finishing touch to the Adour path’s traditional heritage.

The Fontaine Chaude, on the square of the same name, and home to the source of the Néhe stands proud as a symbol of the town.

Apart from the luxury heritage, Dax is also a land of tradition. The statues of the bull and bullfighter echo Dax’s Andalusian arenas.

Dax has a fascinating past and the Musée de Borda, Musée Georgette Dupouy and Musée de l’Aviation Légère de l’Armée de Terre et de l’Hélicoptère have permanent collections for visitors to explore.

Last but not least, the year-long cultural season in Dax has an exciting line-up.

Experience Dax’s cultural side and be sure to go on a guided tour provided by the Office de Tourisme et du Thermalisme.
